Who may register
DRT programs are intended for licensed healthcare professionals whose scope of practice includes manual therapy. These include doctors of chiropractic, medical doctors, doctors of osteopathic medicine, physical therapists, athletic trainers, massage therapists, and other licensed professionals approved by DRT. Chiropractors, physical therapists, athletic trainers and massage therapists may take Levels 1, 2 and 3, once they have completed at least Level 1. Level 4 is open only to licensed medical doctors, doctors of osteopathic medicine, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and requires Levels 1 and 2. Students enrolled in an accredited program that leads to one of these licenses may register for eligible courses with proof of enrollment. Individuals who do not hold a qualifying healthcare license, or who are not enrolled students as described above, are not eligible for hands-on seminars.
License verification
At registration you must provide your license type, number, issuing state or country, and expiration date. DRT may verify your license with the issuing board and may decline or cancel a registration that cannot be verified. If a refund is due because a registration is declined, it will be issued in full.
Manipulation under anesthesia (manipulation under anesthesia)
Manipulation under anesthesia may be learned by licensed medical doctors, doctors of osteopathic medicine and chiropractors, and only they may perform it on patients, within their scope of practice. Physical therapists, athletic trainers, massage therapists and other attendees take Level 2 without the Soft Tissue and Osseous Manipulation Under Anesthesia portion and may not perform manipulation under anesthesia on patients. Completing DRT coursework does not by itself qualify any medical doctor, doctor of osteopathic medicine or chiropractor to perform manipulation under anesthesia. These professionals must also meet all requirements of their jurisdiction, licensing board, facility, and malpractice insurer, which may include additional credentialing, facility privileges, and an anesthesia provider.
Your scope of practice
Scope of practice is set by law and differs by profession and jurisdiction. You are solely responsible for knowing and following the laws, regulations, and board rules that apply to you, and for using only the techniques you are legally authorized and competent to perform. Attending a DRT course, earning a certificate, or receiving DRT certification does not expand your legal scope of practice.
